How the PF/2 Pressure Tank Works - Three Stages to the Flush Cycle

Stage Name

App. Duration

What's Happening?

1. The Flush (3-5 seconds)

The flush begins when the tank lever is depressed and ends when the tank has discharge all of its pressurized water through the bowl. This stage is characterized by a "depressurization" of the PF/2 Energizer tank.

2. Air Intake/Bowl Refill (8-18 seconds)

Air Intake begins when all pressure has left the tank. It is characterized by the disappearance of the small amount of water at the air intake valve inlet and the onset of a suction sound. During this stage, water rushes past this valve (causing the suction) and through the empty tank to refill the bowl below.

3. Pressurization (40-50 seconds)

Air intake stops once the tank begins to re-pressurize (the vacuum of the air intake is opposed by the onset of pressurization). Maximum performance is reached upon full pressurization when water flow into the tank stops.

Troubleshooting Checklist

Problem

Cause

Corrective Action

No pressurization
(Air Intake stage never stops)
Tank lever linkage too tight

Disengage linkage. If unit pressurizes, linkage was holding the actuator open. Adjust linkage so a small amount of slack exists at actuator button when the tank lever is in the relaxed (not flushing) position.

Actuator broken.

Remove linkage to inspect actuator. Actuator will "pop out" if broken or if threads are stripped. In either case, replace cap &supply group assembly and flush valve with rebuild kit (p/n RK150 or RK140).

Inadequate  supply pressure or flow.

Turn off water supply. Flush toilet, and remove supply line from toilet tank inlet shank.  Visually check screen within tank inlet shank. If clogged, remove with paper clip and clean or replace (p/n 330K). If not clogged, check for adequate flow through disconnected supply line (adequate flow will fill a one-quart container in 7 sec or less).

Loose screw (s) on cap assembly manifold.

Insure that all 7 of the cap & supply group assembly screws are tightened evenly. If any are stripped, replace standard screw with "oversized" screw ("cap gasket w/ screws kit" is p/n 359 ). Note: Even though leakage may not be visible around top cap, a loose screw will prevent pressure from building on top of the flush valve piston, thus preventing pressurization.

Flush Valve seals damaged or missing.

Inspect both seals on flush valve. Replace flush valve (p/n 350 or 352 ) if damage/wear is visible.

??????

When cause is unknown and none of the above corrective actions solves the problem, rebuild vessel with rebuild kit (p/n RK150 or RK140)

Vessel pressurizes but flows never "shuts-off"

Slow leak somewhere in pressure zone.

(1) Insure that cap & supply group assembly screws are tight. If tight, then (2) Inspect vessel for active leak. If vessel looks fine, then (3) replace cap & supply group assembly and flush valve with rebuild kit (p/n RK150 or RK140).

Vessel pressurizes but toilet has poor flush Air is not being pulled through air inducer cap

(1) Check for air intake after flush. If device does not take in air, then (2) allow unit to pressurize. Turn off supply line and flush toilet (holding down tank lever for 3 seconds). Listen for gurgling sound after flush. If gurgling sound is present, replace cap & supply group and flush valve with rebuild kit (p/n RK150 or RK140).. Turning the water supply back on may provide a temporary remedy, but p/n RK150 or RK140.is the long-term fix.

Bowl or sewer line is clogged.

If bowl or sewer line is clogged, water will discharge from tank during flush, but will not immediately pass through bowl and down drain line. Another indication of a clog would be if the water level initially rises in the bowl before evacuating during the flush. If this occurs, auger or snake as needed.

Vessel drain valve door (not visible from above) is obstructed.

Because of the check valve drain (not visible) at the base of the pressure tank, 1/2" of water is always present at the bottom of the china tank. If check valve drain becomes obstructed due to a foreign object, massive amounts of water will discharge from the vessel base into the back of the china tank. To fix, remove obstruction. If removal of obstruction does not solve massive leakage, replace entire vessel (contact WCTC). Bowl cleansing tablets or other foreign objects should not be placed in china tank.

Note on Tank Levers

Tank levers are designed to rotate to a stop. If tank lever does not come to a "stop", replace tank lever immediately to avoid damage to vessel components.
