Dam
In a toilet bowl, the barrier built into the trapway that controls the water level in the toilet bowl.

Term used to describe a faucet that is mounted on the deck of the bathtub enclosure, rather than on the rim of the bathtub or on the wall. Also referred to as a Roman spout faucet.

Dial Plate
Trim piece found behind a single-control wall-mount faucet handle. Also known as a face plate.

 

Diaphragm
Flexible membrane in a valve which deflects down onto a rigid area of the valve body to regulate water flow from the supply lines. The large diaphragm found in Kohler's Rite-Temp pressure-balancing valves is resistant to minerals and other debris often found in a water supply. This eliminates the possibility of debris build-up within the valve.

Device for reducing the velocity and increasing the static pressure of a fluid passing through a system.

 

Directional jet
Whirlpool air discharge unit with pivot allowing discharge path to be adjusted by the user.

Basin of sink which contains drain to garbage disposal. Kohler's deep disposal basins result in less splashing.

Diverter
Valve which redirects flow of water to another application within a plumbing system. It is commonly used for diverting water from the tub faucet to a showerhead. With Kohler's 3-way diverter, two shower options--such as a showerhead and bodysprays--can operate at the same time.

Drain
Any pipe which carries off water or water-born wastes in a plumbing drainage system.

Drain body
The portion of a drain fitting which receives the stopper.

 

Drain lever
A lever assembly secured to a drain body to lift a stopper and allow water to leave a basin. Also known as ball lever.

 

Drain linkage
An adjustable strap or bar forming a connection between the lift rod of a faucet and the ball lever assembly of the drain. Also known as connecting link.

Drop-in
Style of bathtub or whirlpool bath which includes an integral mounting rim as part of the overall structure. Installed in a custom bath surround, the Portrait bathtub from Kohler creates a luxurious bathing space.

Dual flush

Duct tape
Heavy duty cloth-based repair tape for temporary emergency repair of piping or tubing. Does not provide an effective water seal and may dry out and lose its adhesion over time.

Sink drain fitting consisting of a strainer body attached to the drain opening and a removable basket. Also called a strainer. KOHLER offers duostrainers in metal and colored finishes to match or complement the color of a kitchen sink.
